Back in the 1950s Broad Eye Windmill was open to the weather after the roof had almost totally disintegrated.

The conical cap would have originally been clad in wooden shingles and would have housed the windshaft and sail mechanism and been able to turn to face the wind.

Fortunately now the roof is in a much better state of repair after being completely renovated to ensure the interior remains as dry as possible whilst further funds are raised for more restoration works.
